View-based object recognition using saliency maps

چکیده
We introduce a new view-based object representation , called the saliency map graph (SMG), which captures the salient regions of an object view at multiple scales using a wavelet transform. This compact representation is highly invariant to translation, rotation, and scaling, and ooers the locality of representation required for occluded object recognition. We then introduce two graph similarity algorithms, one computing the topological similarity between two SMG's and the other computing the geometrical similarity between two SMG's. To reduce search complexity, the k model SMG's for a given object become the leaves in a binary tree, allowing the closest SMG (or view) to be found in O(log k) similarity computations. We test and compare these similarity and search algorithms in the context of a view-based object recognition problem involving a large database of model views.

Compressed-Sampling-Based Image Saliency Detection in the Wavelet Domain
When watching natural scenes, an overwhelming amount of information is delivered to the Human Visual System (HVS). The optic nerve is estimated to receive around 108 bits of information a second. This large amount of information can’t be processed right away through our neural system. Visual attention mechanism enables HVS to spend neural resources efficiently, only on the selected parts of the...

متن کاملSaliency Detection by Selective Strategy for Salient Object Segmentation
Saliency detection is useful for many computer vision tasks including content-based image retrieval, segmentation, and object detection. However, methods on saliency detection are usually greatly affected by factors like features and segmentation results. We propose a novel selective segmentation-based saliency detection model to decrease the side effects caused by these factors. After extracti...
متن کاملLearning Saliency Maps for Object Categorization
We present a novel approach for object category recognition that can find objects in challenging conditions using visual attention technique. It combines saliency maps very closely with the extraction of random subwindows for classification purposes. The maps are built online by the classifier while being used by it to classify the image. Saliency is therefore automatically suited to the abilit...
متن کاملCo-Saliency Detection within a Single Image
Recently, saliency detection in a single image and co-saliency detection in multiple images have drawn extensive research interest in the vision community. In this paper, we investigate a new problem of co-saliency detection within a single image, i.e., detecting within-image co-saliency. By identifying common saliency within an image, e.g., highlighting multiple occurrences of an object class ...
